We invite you to explore your coaching philosophy and many other topics that relate directly to how you practice and talk about coaching, via our fully flexible “coaching theory” program; Principles of Organisational Coaching. This program complements and adds to the theory explored in Levels 1, 2 and 3. It is also a subject in IECL’s Graduate Diploma of Organisational Coaching and Leadership qualification in partnership with Charles Sturt University (CSU).

Duration: Three months (part-time, entirely online/distance learning)

Certification: Principles of Organisational Coaching, Certification (After completing POC you can claim 16 units of “self study” for CCEU purposes.)

Principles of Organisational Coaching

Principles of Organisational Coaching is designed for Level 2 and 3 alumni who are coaching regularly, internally or externally.  If you are Level 1(or have graduated from another coach training program) and already have a regular coaching practice and substantial coaching hours, you will also gain much from this program. Not suitable for recent Level 1 graduates.

Course Content

Offered fully online twice a year, this program views coaching as a multi-disciplinary professional practice that draws on adult education, systems theory, leadership theory, developmental and strength-based psychology. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to reflect on and critically analyse the various philosophical and theoretical concepts and synthesise them for your own application and marketing of organisational coaching.

The program includes the following topics:

  • What is organisational coaching and how can it be defined?
  • The different knowledge bases and theoretical assumptions underpinning organisational coaching and how they shape coaching practice
  • Approaches and strategies for evaluating the coaching engagement
  • Developments in organisational coaching; Diversity
  • Developments in organisational coaching; Mindfulness
  • Developments in organisational coaching; Neuroscience
  • The continuing professional development of the organisational coaching practitioner
  • Exploring the future of Organisational Coaching

Outcomes

At the completion of the Principles of Organisational Coaching program you will have:

  • Reviewed and critically analysed the definitions of organisational coaching and their origins.
  • Reflected on and critically analysed the body of conceptual, theoretical and knowledge assumptions that underpin organisational coaching including its history and development.
  • Synthesised these understandings into an integrated body of knowledge for application in your professional practice and be able to communicate this to others.
  • Critically reflected on your own professional development as a coach and created a plan for your ongoing organisational coaching evolution.

Application and Pre-Work

Prior to commencement of POC, you are required to:

  • Have completed Level 2 Organisational Coaching Certification or equivalent.
  • Purchase one textbook (all other required readings will be supplied).

Format

Principles of Organisational Coaching is offered entirely online to allow for optimal flexibility and accessibility. It offers 140 hours of distance education, 50 hours of which is made up of participation in an online ‘social learning community”. Here readings and other learning resources can be accessed, and asynchronous discussion forums are held. Reading, self-study and work on assignments account for the remaining 90 hours. You should allow at least six hours per week for the 12 weeks of the course to complete the full workload (and more if you like to take your time with reading/reflecting/writing!)  Two conference calls of 90 minutes each will provide direct interaction with us for any questions or points that need further discussion.

Assessment

Two written assignments measure your understanding of the learnings and account for 80% of your mark, participation online accounts for 20%. In the written assignments you will be expected to refer to the readings provided, make use of academic referencing and write approximately 2,000 words per assignment (an IECL referencing guideline will be provided).

Certification

Successful completion of all POC requirements (online modules and a Pass mark for both assignments) leads to certification in Principles of Organisational Coaching and 16 CCEUs for ICF credentialing purposes.
